Octopus stuck in plastic and other ocean waste. Even harpoon and fishhooks. If even an octopus gets stuck in waste, then we know it is time to act for climate.

It is estimate that up to 13 million metric tons of plastic ends up in the ocean every single year. That is the equivalent of a rubbish or garbage truck load’s worth every freakin’ minute! Fish, seabirds, sea turtles, and every single living being in the ocean can become entangled in or ingest the plastic debris. This can cause suffocation, starvation, drowning, etc…

This plastic waste will never degrade, but only get smaller and smaller, until it is so small it can enter the bloodstream. If you eat fish, you can be digesting those microplastics yourself. And unlike big chunks of floating plastic we would be able to remove, we cannot remove micro plastics from the water.

If you pulled 1,000 liters (264 gallons) of water out of the ocean, how many small bits of plastic would you expect to find? Ten pieces? One hundred maybe? Nope. It is close to 8.3 million peaces of what researchers call micro plastic.
